Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Sligo receives Sensory Accreditation from AsIAm

Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Sligo, part of The iNUA Collection, has proudly received Sensory Accreditation from AsIAm, Ireland’s national Autism charity. This special accreditation recognises businesses that are autism-friendly across the country.

To earn this special title, all hotel staff underwent sensory training and went on to create a sensory map and social story which is available to guests staying at the hotel, under the guidance of The Cliste Innovation Team. The hotel has also implemented sensory awareness as part of their Induction & Recruitment Programme for new employees.

Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Sligo introduced a Sensory Bedroom in 2019 creating a “home away from home” for their sensory affected guests, focusing on the 5 senses – Smell, Sight, Touch, Sound and Movement. The team then created a Wellness & Sensory Trail on the grounds of the hotel – using 420 metres of under-utilised garden space, the trail includes raised sensory flower beds, an outside teepee and picnic space for families, guests and the local community to use and planted wildflowers for birds and bees to flourish along the colourful trail’s walls.

Paula Scallon, Director of Sales & Marketing and Innovation Leader at Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Sligo, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be recently awarded with the AsIAm Sensory Accreditation and am proud to say we are one of the few hotels in the country to receive this worthy accreditation.’ Paula continued ‘It’s been an absolutely amazing journey stemming from the introduction of our Sensory Bedroom back in 2019, which led us to starting our work with AsIAm in 2022 to create an even more welcoming and inclusive environment. Including the introduction of a sensory map, social story and sensory awareness in our new employee Induction Programme.

‘AsIAm were also thrilled to see us introduce the last piece of the jigsaw which commenced in March 2023. This was the development of a 420 metre Wellness and Sensory Trail around the hotel – it provides both our guests and the local community with a lovely space to be out and in touch with nature. I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved and look forward to seeing it being enjoyed by all who come and visit us. I would like to thank the entire hotel team for all their hard work and for the iNua Collection who supported us all the way”.
